- The local fairs are held in the following towns and villages: Longford, Granard, Mostrim, Ballinalee, Arva, Ballinamuck, Drumlish, and many others. Formerly there were three fairs held annually in Bonlahy, but these are not held for the past three or four years.
The fairs are always held in towns or villages. Buyers transact business at the farmers' houses sometimes. There were some fairs discontinued because they were no good trade.
There are no local traditions of fairs held on hills, in the neighbourhood of cemeteries, in castles, or in forts. The town fairs are sometimes held on fair-greens and sometimes on the streets.
A "luck penny" is given when a animal has been sold. The amount given varies according to the price obtained, and the kind of beast sold.
When a bargain has been made the parties show their agreement by striking hands. Animals are sometimes marked with red or blue raddle when they are sold.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
