- There is a fairy fort in one of our fields. It is a very round fort with a big gripe around it. Long ago there was a ring of big trees in it. There is a hole in the middle of it. It is a small round hole. Some people let stones down into it, and they heard them going down for about half an hour, and when they reached the bottom they made a horrid noise. The hole could never be filled and there had to be a piece of iron put on the top of it, and a heap of sods and clay put over it.
If anything lay down sick beside it it would never get better.
If there was anything taken out of it something belonging to the person who took it would die soon afterwards.
