- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)eggs are clear then and the others have a dark shadow in the centre. It takes three weeks to hatch hen eggs. During that time the hen should be taken off the nest and given food and water to drink. When the little chickens are coming out the discarded shells sould be taken out of the nest. The chickens might get hurt scrambling through the broken shells. When they all have come out they are left in the nest until the nest day. Then they are taken out on the floor and given food to eat crumbs of bread or dry oatmeal teaches them to pick up their food. They still must be kept warm for a week or two. After that they can be put out in the sunshine in a dry clean place and given mashed potatoes with meal three times(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
