Two of the cows have names the Gawan Rue and the Colleen Rue At milking time if they are far in the fields we call prug prug and they come to the gate. The cow house or byre is built of stone and covered with iron and the floor is made of cobble stones with a low channel in the centre to drain off the wet and keep the high place where the cows lie dry. Each evening they get a fresh bed of straw and fresh hay put in the mangers. The cows are tied to wooden stakes in each end of the house. A ring is around the stake that slides up and down.
