- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)the remains of dead and gone generations for the past three or four hundred years. There is an old ruins in Newtown once the home of most notorious Priest hunters of their day. (The Finowles) There was a gibbet erected there too to hang the Priests as well. There was the remains of an old spire or tower in this locality too. It was identical to one the ruins of which are in Kilclare one and a half or two miles south of the town. Both had been built like towers, round, with "look outs" (tiny windows) without glass at intervals up their perpendicular walls. Each too had spiral stair-ways in the interior. No one knows rightly when, or by whom they were built, or for what purpose they were used. There is an old graveyard beside the Newtown spire.
