- Bread was made from wheat oats and corn grown locally. The flour was made locally. My mother does not remember querns, but she often heard of their being in use.The different kinds of bread which were used are, oaten-meal bread wheaten-meal bread and rye bread, potato cakes, boxty bread, and pancakes.
