- In olden times shops were few and far between. They were not much needed as the wants of the people were supplied from local sources. Their food, dress, clothing, boots and bedding were home manufacture. Their fashions seldom varied and their Sunday garments were not worn except on those days.
Pedlars traveled through the country as did rag men who gave pins, bootlaces, buttons, hooks and eyes, reels combs, brushes etc in exchange for linen rages or for feathers, bones or bottles..
Money self passed between buyer and seller yet both were satisfied with their bargains
Pedlars brought some nice dress material or nice suiting's for men. Sometimes an exchange was made, the pedlar taking away a piece of home spun and leaving silk or(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
