    Long ago in Ireland there were no National schools as there are nowadays, and the people had to pay for their education and if a teacher came the way the people would implore of him to remain around their district for a while to teach them. Around this district there were a few old schools and many people used to attend them seeking knowledge.
    About three quarters of a mile from where I live there are the ruins of an old school which is situated in the middle of an old lonely place called Newtown. In this place there was once eighteen houses and the people who inhabited them, along with other people from the district used to gather into their small school, and there hold their night school for about three hours.
    The man who used to teach was called ‘Lame Charlie’ whose right name was Charlie Reilly, and
