  1. There is a tree opposite Ned Stone's house and at one time a priest was hiding in it. When the Cromwellian soldiers found him they asked him "had he any temporal or spiritual powers from Rome" and he said he had. They told him to show them. He went to this tree and struck his foot in it and the mark is there ever since.
