Ar an leathanach seo

  1. In former times houses were very different to what they are at present.
    Most of the houses were thatched with straw, but people who were not able to afford to have straw used thatch their houses with rushes.
    Some people used to grow the straw on their farms, and others used to buy it, but the rushes were got in bogs.
    There was usually a bed kept in every kitchen, and these were called "settle beds" or "press beds".
    Nearly every fire was in the corner against the side wall, and the chimney was made of wood.
    The floors were generally made of clay, as people did not know the use of cement or tiles in olden times.
