- Baltray is a small village situated about 1/8 of a mile from the mouth of the Boyne and 3 1/2 miles from Drogheda.
The village is of very ancient origin. At present it consists of about 50 houses and 2 farms. Some of those are mere mud cabins with thatched roofs and clay floors. A number of those cabins fell to ruins during the past 30 or 40 years and their failure was due to the tide which when at its highest flowed into the houses leaving them very damp for months.
Gradually the walls got very soft from the tide coming in and eventually fell to ruins.
About 20 years ago the late landlord built a wall around the village to prevent the tide entering the houses. Judging by the thatched roofs of some of these houses it must be up to 200 years ago since they were built. Of late years a number of those small houses are now being improved and some additions made to them. This is due to the Grant allowed(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
