- Most of the game of the present day at the Glorified relics of the games of old. Base ball the great national game in America is supposed to be a descendant of a game called rounders. These were other games of a similar kind like Ball in the Hat ect. Another game called cat sticks or cat in the hole was a cricket match in minature. Most of the games were played at wakes (a wake then was an occasion for sport.) The principal one was called "Shove the Brogue" played with something passed from one to another to the accompaniment of "shid-dha, shid-dha". The national game (in this locality at least) was wrestling.
