- On our farm there are two milk
cows, three working horses, three
calves, one goat, twenty four hens
and twenty four chickens one
dog and one cat.
The cows names are Darkie
and Daisy. When driving cows in
or out to a field the people say
"Go on". They say the same to
calves. In the cow-house there
are large mangers form which
the cows eat from. There is
also a door and one window.
The name for the cow-house is
the byre. The cows are tied by
a chain around their necks and
this is fastened to a stake.
The material of the tyings are
chains or strong ropes.
These tyings are not home-made
they are made in Dublin and
Belfast.
At Christmas there is a branch
of holly hung in the cow-house
and at Easter a piece of palm
to bring good luck on the stock.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
