    Long ago the thread was all spun for knitting the socks. The wool was got from the sheep it was then teased and carded. Then they spun it single and doubled it. They had no dye to dye it but mixed black and white wool together This knitted nice grey socks.
    Black clothes are worn after a death and usually a very elaborate frock is worn at weddings.
