  1. About 100 years two boys named Moan who lived in the townland of Cornacraob about 4 1/2 miles from Monaghan were drowned near where they lived. Their father was away helping another farmer to draw in hay to the shed and their mother sent them to the bog for some turf. One of the boys fell into the hole and the other went to pull him out and he fell in also. They were about 3 hours in the hole when their father found them both dead. They were aged from 9 to 12 years.

  2. About 50 years ago another drowning accident took place in Sheetrim Lough which is a lough situated in the townland of Sheetrim in the Parish of Monaghan about 2 miles from Monaghan. There was a man swimming in this lough and while doing so he swam from one side to the other and back again to the side from
