    years later. The thunder peeled and the lightning flashed and the sun shone In the middle of the storm there were three enormous shots or cracks resembling the shots from a cannon - gun. It began about noon and continued until late in the evening. A man named Boyd who was returning home from Monaghan from loadening sheep on the train was killed. On the old Ballibay road about 3 miles from Monaghan town as he was walking along he was struck by the lightning and killed. He had a tin of sheep dip under his arm and it is thought it attracted the lightning
    At the same time a woman had 3 cows standing at a gate 2 of them were killed and one was left standing untouched
