On May Eve
On May Eve the people of the towns in CLare hang a green branch on the doors of the houses and in the country it is on May morning early the people cut a green branch and hang it on the rafters of the house.
On May Eve the country people get a bottle of water from a point where three townlands meet. They take the water home and they sprinkle it on the family and on the animals.
It is on May morning that some women go to steal the milk from their neighbours.
There are at least two instances in the parish of Inagh where women were caught milking their neighbours cows on May morning.
Those people will not tell anybody how the milk is done. It is a secret.
In the district around Mount Callan all the people lock the cows in the cabin on May Eve.
