On a Sunday night in the month of November 1913 John Kildea, a poor servant boy was shot outside the house of a family named Marrinan, Islandbawn, near Ennistymon.
He was going home to his employer from a visit to a neighbours house.
He was attacked near Marrinan's house and wounded but he ran to the door of Marrinan's house and was murdered there.
In the following week two young men the locality were arrested.
The men were Patrick Ryan and Patrick Hegarty.
They were tried in court and at three different trials Hegarty disapreed.
The government, however, knew that they had the right men and they were transported to Canad for life.
