In the month of May 1905 at Fermoyle Mount Callan Michael McGuane was murdered by Conor Curry. They had a dispute over a bank of turf in McGuanes land.
Curry went with two men to cut the turf and McGuane came on the scene.
A dispute arose and both men were armed with forks. McGuane drew a blow of the fork Curry but missed him. Curry then drew a blow at McGuane and killed him. He then gave McGuane a second blow.
Curry was afterwards tried in court and got two years in prison.
He would be let free only for his second blow. He died in prison before the end of the second year.
The workmen could have prevented the murder but they never interfered or made any attempt to stop them.
