- In nearly every district there are many old ruins. As one goes out the Mitchelstown road there is a hill just outside the town. At the top of this there is an old hospital. After the famine in 1846 when there was plague of black fever in the land this hospital was in use and people say that there were so many people with sickness coming in to the hospital that they used to bury them before they were dead. In the Town of Cahir there is a Castle. It is built on a big rock on the Suir. "Castle Street" is called after it. It belonged to the Butlers. There are three gates leading into the Castle. As one goes in the third gate one can see a kind of gate with big spikes on it. This gate used to be let down when the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
