- There are a great many different signs foretelling the weather. "A red sky at night is the sheperds delight," this shows that a red sky at night is for fine weather. A mackerel sky is the sign for rain.
Swallows flying low is the sign of rain. Also when the soot falls down the chimney, when the spider comes out of his web, when the frog changes his colour, and when the peacocks cry are all different signs of rain.
If the mountains look far away it is a sign of fine weather.
