- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)A school was set up in Kilcommon by a Mr. Clarke who came as "a poor scholar" from Co. Cavan.Other schools carried on by people in their own houses were :-
1) A small school carried on for some time in Croughmarka by a Mr. Conny Ryan (Bog) and his wife.
It was near the site of the present creamery in Croughmarka.
2) A small school carried on in Renevana by a Mr. Rody Ryan and his wife. This must have ben going on almost at the time the 1st National School was established here in 1875.The first National School was established here in 1875 by the very Rev Thomas Canon O'Donnell P.P. Doon.
The teacher was Mr. P. O'Donoghue.
Mr. O'Donoghue went to the teachers training college and was succeeded here by Mr. Timothy Collins in 1878.
Mr. Collins was Prin. Teacher from 1878 to 191.
The first national school built here in 1875 was demolished in 1914 and the present National School was built that year.
