it was not the custom to get married at the time. There is an old proverb connected with it. "Married in the harvest, and ripped in Spring." Thus it was considered unlucky. As to lucky days of the week for marriages either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday are the luckiest. No one ever got married on a Monday, as it is supposed to be unlucky. Marriages are mostly arranged by a person called a Matchmaker. The man goes to interview either boy or girl, and sees what dowry is required as sometimes it means a thousand pounds, dowry.
Working boys and girls are belonging to the old proverb
"Love and a cottage for Mary and me."
Those marriages are very often successful, and their families are very good.
There were many humourous customs in former times, when a marriage would be in the local church.
