At every wedding house long ago a crowd of boys from around the place gathered together. These boys were called "straw boys" because they wore a súgán of straw around their legs and bodies and they also blackened their faces, so that they would not be known. They would be singing and making noise outside the house and the man of the house would know the "straw boys" and he would give them meat, bread, money, and drink. Then they would sing a song and go away. If they would not get money or drink they would be very cross and if anyone would go out they would hunt them.
