There are very few hidden treasures around Cloyne. There is supposed to be gold hidden over by Mrs. Dorgan’s gate at the right hand side on the Kilboy road. It is told that one night a man went to dig and in doing so, a dog jumped up barking and hunted the man away.

There is also hidden treasure in Mr. Sweetman’s filed which is called the Chapel field in Commons East. Once a man desering the treasure went to dig it up and the same thing happened so nobody had ventured to dig for it ever since because they were afraid of the dog.Old people tell stories about gold being hidden in a lonesome place called the Cáirnic. It is situated midway between Ballyandreen and Ballycotton and in the townland of Duneenmacotter.
