- When a boy and girl are going to get married they first see the parish priest of the place to get their and the necessary papers to enable them to get married. They arrange to meet at the church the morning of the marriage. After the ceremony they either go home or go to a city on their honeymoon.
Then they have breakfast, and the wedding cake is cut and pieces are distributed round to the friends. It is an old custom to place a piece of the wedding cake under the pillow, and dream on it, another custom is to fling a boot or a shoe after the couple. Also the throwing of confetti and rice.
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are unlucky days for marriages. In some cases money is given as a dowry. Strawboys dress up like the wren boys at night, and go into the wedding house and play music.
