In 1644 the Irish made another attempt to take the castle. Raymond attacked and defeated the Irish. In 1645 Lord Castlehaven in command of the Irish took most of the strongholds of the county.
Liscarroll was given up without a shot although in a good position to resist. Raymond was arrested, sentenced to death, but afterwards pardoned and sent to England.
Sir Hardress Waller took it again from the Irish. Then Perceval got it and let the castle
South of Liscarroll there is a small hole in the face of a rock from which a subterranean passage runs to the Castle.
