- If any priest was caught saying mass the head would be cut off him and put on a gate. The priests used to say mass in lonely glens and in houses. The "Stations" that are held in the houses are the relic of penal days. When the people could not afford mass or have a priest to say mass they used to collect a number of people and they would say the Rosary in the homes. There was no church in any village at that time. The churches were burned and knocked down.
