  1. There was a Hedge School above at James Coleman's of Tureen Duffe. The teacher that taught there was the "Black Master." The school they used to have was an out-house and the pupils used to tidy the house for the day. Irish was spoken at that time and there was no English spoken. When the fine weather was there they used to go out near the Hedge and when the wet weather would come they would go into a house. The house that they would go into would be cow houses or a pig house. When they would put down a fire there was no chimney on the cow house and the smoke would go inside around the house. That is why they used to go out in the summer-time.
