The man ran out, told all his neighbours what he had heard, and in this way the story spread all over Kinsale. At the time there lived an old generation who believed that in ancient times cats could speak, and that by listening carefully at night you could understand certain words from the cats - This account of Fanny Newman or Granny Fan is recounted by several persons who were descendants whether direct, or colateral
