  1. De Courcey was chieftain over this district during the reign of Hugh ONeill in Donegal. Hugh O Neill and his army were supposed to have passed along the creek of Ballinadee to a point about half a mile down the river from Kilgobbin castle.
    In a certain bog in Kilgobbin a man is supposed to have been buried. Tradition tells us that he was drowned in a creek that runs beside the bog and that his corpse was interred in the marshy ground.
    A field belonging to Mr Brennan Rathrout Ballinadee was supposed to have been used as a graveyard in olden times. In Mr Griffin's field in Kilgobbin Ballindaee there was another graveyard. A big number of people were buried there the time of the great famine.
    About three hundred years ago the Cromwellian army sailed up the river Bandon and as they were passing Kilgobbin castle they fired at it and blew the top off, they meant to finish it when
