    As the houses were one-storied the bed was usually in the kitchen. Every night the bed was placed near the fire and during the day it was laid aside. In some houses the bed was not on the ground, or it was not placed near the fire but it was on a "folding seat". This seat was used as a table during the day and also as a seat, and at night it was unfolded and used as a bed. It was four feet wide when used as a bed and when used as a table or seat it was two feet in width.
