  1. Anybody used not wear shoes a hundred years ago until they were about fourteen years old and they were only worn then when going to Mass or to market or on some special occasion. My Grandmother told me that she never wore shoes until she was going to be confirmed. A few days before Confirmation she had to walk to Bantry where she got a pair of rubber shoes called "Perks"
    It is said that there were many around here who never wore shoes. One travelling man from Glaun whose name was Jack Driscoll never wore shoes and his feet were so hardened that
