   Darinis but returned to his native place where he founded the famous school called Ros Alither on an eminence overlooking the sea.
   This school of Ross was one of the most celebrated in Ireland and attracted students from all parts of the country and even from Europe.
   St. Fachanan also founded here a separate college for the study of Sacred Scripture.
   St. Fachanan achieved fame not only as a teacher but also as a preacher and eventually was elevated to episcopal rank becoming founder and patron of the Diocese of Ross.
   He passed away at the early age of forty-six but the year of his death is uncertain. Dr. Lanigan places it at the close of the sixth century - about 590 A.D. The Saint was interred in his own cathedral church of Ross. His famous school however continued to be a centre of religion and learning for many centuries.
