   The feathered songsters of our woods and groves (as the poet describes them) are our friends the birds.
   Many of them and their habits we are well acquainted with but of course there are many of them whose lives and habits are unknown to us. One thing we do know the more brightly coloured a bird or flower the less sweet its song and perfume.
   Not all of our bird friends possess voices but some are so melodious like the skylark, nightengale, black-bird, thrush, canary (to use an expression prevalent among people). You would stand in the snow to listen to their lays especially in Spring
