   the tenants and made into a sheep run, a number of the tenants settled in Cloonfree here and there on small bits of land among them being the Farrells. One of these was living in the little house west of the school & the Ardkillian mearing. He was a cobbler by trade & a stonebreaker for road repairs. He often showed me where he lived in Cloonraine and told me their mode of life. The houses in Cloonraine formed "streets" the sites of which are plainly seen at the present day. I often heard stories of the peculiar habits of the Cloonraine people. Some years ago I saw a slab headstone lying by the old abbey wall which was erected by a resident of Cloonraine and the stone stated was "erected for himself and his posterity". I haven't been in the churchyard recently to see if it is still there. Apropos of this Churchyard there is still a Holy Water stoup which never dries up & is always kept covered by another stone. This has been emptied out several times by curious people but it always fills in again & the water is always pure & fresh, but worms or any such like always die the moment they touch the water but never putrify. There is supposed to be a cure in the water, but whether for some particular disease or disease in general the legend does not say. I shall set down an experience of my own.
   A small wart came under my right eye, I pinched it off with my nails (I had heard that was how a neighbour of mine was treated by the County Surgeon) but instead of healing it commenced to fester and there was an intolerable
