“Somewhere in this country but I dont know where there lived a great giant.”
Somewhere in this country but I don't know where there lived a great giant. He was very wicked and Cruel. He used to make people do his will by force and often killed them if they were not able. It happened that there lived a family near this giant's castle. There were three sons in this family and one day the giant captured and carried off one of them. He told this man that if he was not able to eat as much as himself in the evening that he would kill him. The man worked hard all day, hoping that he would have a good appetite in the evening and that he would be able to eat as much as the giant. When evening came the man came to the castle for the big feed. The giant had a big pot of stirabout ready. They both began eating and eating but the giant ate a lot more than the man. So the giant put the poor man to death.
The next day the giant brought away the second son and told him the same story as he told the first(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
