  1. Local cures.
    People long ago had a cure for every ailment that was going through the country. The cure that they had for the toothache was tobacco Some people used to cut the tobacco in little bits and stick on of the little bits into the tooth that was aching. When the children or the big people took the Chin Cough. Often when children get a scorch of a nettle they get a dock leaf and spit on it and fasten the leaf on to the scorch. When the people wanted to draw the badness out of a cut or scrape they got a leaf of cabbage to the cut. When the people wanted to heal it they put on the smooth side of the leaf. Also when people got a sty o their eye they pointed nine gooseberry thorns to it and threw away the tenth. There are special days for doing it Mondays and Thursdays. It is said that the seventh daughter in a house or the seventh son without and boys mixed through the girls or any girls through the boys has the cure of the ring worm. When people get a burn they nearly always rub soap on the burn. If people have a wart on their
