During Shrovetide local marriages most frequently take place. It is a superstitious belief among the old people that Shrove Tuesday is a very unlucky day for marriage because if you marry on that day you will meet with financial difficulties and domestic trouble during your future life. It is also believed among the old people that the month of May is a very unlucky time to receive the Sacrament of Matrimony. An old proverb says: "If you marry in May you will lament that day."
