The fight was over
The moon shone down O'Connell's street
I stood alone, where brave men perished
Their souls had gone
Their God to meet
The first I met was a dying rebel
On bending low I heard him say
''God bless my home in Tipperary
God bless the cause for which I
die''
The next I met was a fairhaired cailín.
Kneeling by her lover's side
She prayed to God, her Heavenly father
To watch and guard him till he died
The next I met was a grayhaired father
Searching for his only son
