  1. "SHEPHERD'S PIE" was an old dish. It was made from layers of potatoes and pieces of meat.
A cake called "Boxty" was made from grated raw potatoes and flour.
"GRAWNBESA" was made from young wheat and milk.
"PLUMDUFF" - A kind of pudding made from pealed apples and flour. The apples were cut in thin slices. A cake was made and the apple slices placed in the middle of the cake which was then put in a close linen bag and boiled.
"SOWSHEEN" was a kind of sauce sometimes called "Solamagunda", made from flour boiled in water and served hot on boiled potatoes.
Some people long ago were very fond of strong tea. If any cook made thin tea, they used remark: "She made "Shawn bawtye (Seán báidhte perhaps) out of it."
