- Butler's castle is situated in Tinnehinch on the left-hand bank of the River Barrow. Its foundation is laid on a rock. The roof collapsed many years ago, and it is in ruins now. It was one of the castles built by the Butlers along the banks of the river Barrow to protect their territories in the Pale.
The Butlers were very anti-Irish, but one of them was so fanatical in his hatred of the Irish Catholics that he was nicknamed "Mad Butler". He indulged in duels and wild escapades of every kind.- Bailitheoir
