But let no anxious care oppress the mind --
For what is past or in the future looms
A panacea may one surely find
Among these ivied walls and mouldering tombs.

The founder of this house, Le Mareschall bold,
For all his wealth a sore-grieved man was he,
Bereft of kith, and kin, forsaken, old,
The stranger made his grave beyond the sea.

And Dermod Ryan, who so nobly gave
To Bernard's sons the woodlands of Idrone
Rests in a nameless, and forgotten grave,
Shrined in the memory of God alone.

The architect who planned this noble pile,
The artist-hand that carved these corbel stones,
The master-builder of the nave, and aisle,
What are they now but yellow dust, and bones.

The monks who many a year this pavement trod
Their share of human woe be sure they found,
They laid their sorrows at the throne of God
And many a hundred years they sleep full sound
