- Epidemics of Fever in this district during the past century:-During the Famine years there was an outbreak of fever in Graignamanagh. This fever was Cholera. The fever was brought about by the scarcity of food and the failure of the potato crops. The disease which destroyed the potatoes was Blight. People ate the black potatoes and many ate the grass in the fields. Many people died in all the homes of the town and all over Ireland.
When the people died the bodies were taken to a morgue which was down near the Barrow in a marsh called the "Osiery". The bodies were taken in a horse and cart and buried in large graves. The popluation of Ireland before the Famine was eight millions and after the Famine(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
