  1. Halter-making was an old craft in this locality. There are very few people who are able to make a halter now. A halter is called "adhastar". It requires great skill to make a halter. We need six yards of rope to make a halter. We rip one end of the rope and plait it into the rope. This is called a splice. We require to see the horse for which the haler is being made. The nose-band must be three hands wide this is one foot. We can make a running halter which will fit any animal from a young foal to the biggest horse. The man who makes the halters in this locality is John Murphy, Crobally, Mullinavat, Co. Kilkenny. All the farmers go to him to get halters made.
