- There is an old castle near the main road from Kilkenny to Waterford, called, in Irish Caisleán na Bhainne, and in English "Castlebanny". It is in the Parish of Ballyhale, in the Barony of Knocktopher, and in the County Kilkenny. The ruins of the castle can be seen from the main road. There is only one wall standing now, and it over a hundred feet high. It is on Mr. Fitzgerald's land. The reason it is called "Caisleán na Bhanne", is because the cows used to be milked around the castle and the milk given to the poor. The last lady who lived there was a Miss Fanning, and she was very generous. When she was dying she left money to be invested for the poor of the estate, and the interest of this money is given to(continues on next page)
