    In the year 1845,the people did not take time to pit the potatoes but threw them in the backs of ditches.In 1846,there were no seed potatoes and the people had to buy potatoes at two shillings a stone in Five-Mile-Town.The famine affected the district very much.There was twice the amount of people in the district before the famine than there is now.In some instances people were found dead on the road.Along Cleirkin's lane there is the ruins of a house then occupied by a man named Lamb.
    The people had oaten porridge and oaten bread instead of potatoes.The chief relief work
