  1. Houses Long Ago
The floors were made of clay and they had barrells for chimneys and there was no fireboard. The fire was on the hearthstone. The walls were made of clay and stones.
Nearly every house in the country long ago was made of sods. The names of the people who lived in our district were The McGlones, The Curry's, The Brady's and the Coogans.
Long ago men used flint-stones to light their pipes. They made a kind of paper and whenever any light went near the paper it would go on fire. They would get two flint-stones and rub them against each other. The flint stones would make a flash of light and it would light the paper.
Long ago the houses were made of mud walls and a thatched roof. Candles were made of rush and slots.
