    This person a man named Dixon turned King's evidence under promise of a free pardon for himself and free passage to Australia. This same man appeared before the court and swore that he had seen Sam stab to death a schoolmaster named Winters, (who taught in Derryvalley.) on the Clones Road, in the vicinity of the present-day convent gate. Sam was sentenced to death this time, but the sentence was later changed to one of penal-servitude. He only served a few months of his sentence and he was then released owing to ill health. He returned home to Ballybay a broken man, to find that all his followers had deserted him, and his power was gone forever. He made a will for the Rev Moses, Bradford, Senior of Ednan. and stuck it in the dead man's mouth, and swore that this was the last word that came out of the dead man's mouth. Both men are now buried alongside each other in the Church of Ireland Graveyard in Ballybay. Sam died
