- The travelling people of to-day differ greatly from those of earlier ages. Long ago when people were evicted or when poverety robbed them of their houses they took to wandering about from house to house and were know as travelling people. They were recieved with kindness at most of the farm-houses. They used to make small carpets and many other articles and tried to sell them. People bought some of these articles of them at their houses and welcomed them. These travelling people used to stay in the houses at night. In some houses they remained two or three nights while they travelled about the neighbourhood. They used to sleep on straw in the corner of the kitchen right in the house in which they stayed. They begged at the farmhouses for money and food and they cooked for themselves. At the farmhouses they never refused anything. They would take potatoes and meal and all sorts of food and also money(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
